Music and Video Projects
Below you can find various projects from my time at Hocking College. This includes both music and video projects involving original content as well as synchronization of preexisting content. Below each example you can find a short explanation as to what capacity my input was involved. All examples are taken from either my Youtube or Soundcloud profile. The button at the top of this page will take you to my full Soundcloud profile, while the link to my Youtube content can be found under the Contact tab.
The Matrix Title Sequence
This video sequence is part of a project I completed for my last-semester Digital Production Synthesis course. It's one of four similar videos for which I composed a soundtrack to accompany a motion picture title sequence of my choosing. Four different soundtracks were to be composed by students for the sequence they chose. Each composition was supposed to convey a different emotional atmosphere, resulting in a unique feeling for each interpretation of the sequence. Music for the soundtracks was to be composed in Reason and Rewired in Pro Tools. I feel this is the best example of my work on the project.

Trainspotting Sequence
This was a Creative Mixing and Sequencing project in which students were required to compose an original soundtrack to accompany a motion picture promotional trailer. Students were given several trailers to choose from by the instructor, and strongly encouraged not to reference the soundtrack that originally went along with the sequence. Music for the soundtrack was to be composed using Propellerhead's Reason 7, and then Rewired into Pro Tools for the video synchronizing.

Road Rage PSA
This public service announcement was a an Interactive Multimedia project in which students were put into groups and instructed to come up with a concept to create a public service announcement (PSA) video. After conceptualizing the video and plotting the filming process, students were then to edit the footage individually, so that each PSA video would be the student's own unique work.
My group filmed the project over the course of a day in the town of Nelsonville, and on the campus of Hocking College. At the end of the filming process, we realized we had failed to capture audio for a large part of the footage. This gave me the idea to present my editing of the footage as a silent film, which I feel worked out very well. The footage was all edited and sequenced using iMovie software in the college's Mac lab.

The Dungeon Music Video
This music video was also an Interactive Multimedia project that incorporated a recording project I was involved in in my first-semeste, Intro to Digital Production course.
Once again, students were put into groups and given the assignment of first reaching a consensus on a piece of music to feature in an original video, then coming up with a concept for the video and plotting out the filming process.
We filmed over the course of several days on the campus of Hocking College, and around the city of Athens. As with the PSA, each student was required to edit the footage themselves, so that each video would be unique. Like the Road Rage PSA, it was also edited and sequenced using iMovie in the Hocking College School of Music Mac lab.

Six Guys, One Camera
This was an Interactive Multimedia photography and sequencing project meant to mimic the photographic still-motion style of documentarian Ken Burns. It was personally edited and sequenced using iMovie in the Mac lab.

Tetris Battle Synthesis Project
This project from my last-semester Music Production Synthesis course features live footage of an online Tetris match between myself and a random competitor from an undisclosed location on the web.
I captured the footage for this project of myself in battle using online software provided by Screencast-O-Matic at screencast-o-matic.com. Using this software, I had the unique opportunity to be the only student in the class to feature myself in gameplay for this sequencing project.
Students were required, for this project, to compose an original musical soundtrack, complete with at least a dozen original sound effects, to accompany footage of gameplay from a video game of their choice. All sound effects were required to be recorded and synchronized with the footage in Pro Tools, while the music was to be composed in Reason, and synchronized with the Pro Tools media using Rewire.
I composed the Tetris theme heard here after learning the piece on guitar from the game's original theme music, adapting it to synthesizer, and recording it into Reason. I added some original percussion and complimentary rhythm effects programming to the original score, and tweaked the synth and bass effects until I was satisfied with my take on the composition. I feel it all melds together well, and I ultimately really enjoyed putting it all together.
