Ever since reading 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, Daniel Pinchbeck has been one of my favorite authors. Based out of New York City, his mother is Beat writer Joyce Johnson, former girlfriend of Jack Kerouac (author of On The Road and various other literary works) perhaps the most famous writer of the Beat Generation. In that vain, Pinchbeck carries the beatnik flame. His literary works are highly imaginative, nonfiction recollections of various adventures into both the psyche and some of the world's most exciting places. Pinchbeck's favorite topics include modern and esoteric shamanism, psychedelic explorations, environmentalism, and technology.
Along those lines, Pinchbeck cofounded the online, interactive community Evolver Social Movement, a worldwide community of "cultural creatives" dedicated to the betterment of society through many of the ideas that Pinchbeck explores in his writing. Hardly limited to the ideals of just one man however, Evolver is a wide collective of individuals that explores a spectrum of culturally revolutionary ideas. Various authors have found success through the community and landed publishing deals with Penguin Books, Pinchbeck's clearing house. Evolver holds workshops all around the world and anyone is free to join and participate. More information can be found at Evolver.net.
MInd shift is Pinchbeck's latest project, an online talkshow which he hosts exclusively for Gaiam TV. Although I have not yet tuned in, I'm sure the subject matter will be thought provoking and evocative. Pinchbeck's lectures can be found all over the net to anyone who may be curious. I'm sure his talk show will be in much the same spirit as his influential works of literature and entrepreneurship.
